Climate severely affects farming and livelihoods in the Teesta River Basin. The Minister of Agriculture Matia Chowdhury requested the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Policy Support Unit (APSU), with technical guidance from the USAID-funded Policy Research and Strategy Support Program (PRSSP) implemented by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), to develop policies and programs to improve agriculture and reduce poverty in this region of northern Bangladesh.

IFPRI and APSU jointly organized a workshop in Rangpur to share study findings and make recommendations for a national strategy. 106 government officials, NGOs, and farmers attended the strategic meeting.
